When Will Health Care Become A Bigger Priority Than Corporate Greed?
By Jeffrey Paulsen on February 2, 2010, 11:58 am Posted in Finance NewsWhen will health care become a bigger priority than corporate greed? The health care industry has been spending millions and millions of dollars to prevent health care reform. Is delaying health care reform also preventing necessary scientific findings to help every day Americans?
Polio: The Last Disease Every Fully Cured
The last major disease that was cured was Polio, since then no other vaccines have been invented to stop major diseases that impact every day Americans. There have been some medical breakthroughs in treatments for diseases and cancers but real concrete progress has yet to be made.
Curing Cancers and HIV/AIDS Not Profitable For Pharmaceutical Companies
Curing cancers, HIV/ AIDS and other diseases is not profitable to pharmaceutical companies. The drugs that are used to treat these diseases are incredibly expensive. If a vaccine were created, then these companies would lose billions of dollars in profits annually.
Vaccinations For Major Diseases And Illnesses Would Lower Amount of Insurance Claims
If people could have vaccinations for cancers, HIV/AIDS, and other deadly illnesses then the number of insurance claims filed by Americans would drop dramatically. This would improve the state of the economy for the United States and help insurance companies stay profitable. The fewer claims that health insurance companies have to pay out for, the better their bottom lines will be. This is a win-win situation for both Americans and insurance companies.
Health care should be a fundamental right in this country. Now, the Supreme Court says that a company has the right to act as a person and impact elections. Companies are known for being about the bottom line so this will hurt the future of health care reform for years to come. As a country, we as voters need to stand up and say that money does not buy happiness. If your family is unhealthy and cannot survive then you cannot be a happy person. Voters need to say that they want to have health care reform and hopefully someday they as consumers will have the power over insurance companies.
