Unemployment And The Economy: Are There Reasons To Look Up
By William Finch on September 4, 2010, 9:52 am Posted in Finance NewsUnemployment remains high and the economy stagnant. The only negative point missing is inflation and that is on the horizon. Yet the economy is touted as recovering, albeit slowly. This is mainly by those who must say so, because their investment jobs, or those of the talking heads representing investors must “sugar coat” the situation.
Unemployment
This will remain high for a generation and even with a decline in illegal immigration. There are few manufacturing jobs. Each worker in a manufacturing capacity produces 5 times the amount of previous decades. Certainly not much more manpower is needed in this sector.
There is too much square footage for each shopper. That is now decreasing with the decline of commercial real estate and the accompanying jobs. Look at the “for rent” signs at the mall.
It is a good thing for each employee to be more productive. It is another when there is no place to put the Unemployed. The only remedy is as replacement slave labor in China. Perhaps they can make some I-Phones for Apple.
Economy
Car sales are declining and Wal-Mart is crowded. This tells us that shoppers are “purchasing down.” Oh yes, the Dollar Stores are thriving as well.
The economy is being outsourced and insourced. Outsourced to China and India through manufacturing and call centers, to name a couple of sectors. Insourcing of construction and computer jobs. With this scenario in place, it is hard to see a robust economy. It is easier to visualize one limping along.
Obama, or the Republicans take your pick. If you think things are going to improve anytime soon, you are an eternal optimist. Save a little money, silver and products to protect you. A bad economy and high unemployment are here to stay. The Democrats should break out the theme of FDR, “Happy Days are Here Again” along with it add “Brother Can You Spare a Dime?”
