Tier 5 Unemployment Extension: Schumers Staff Too Tired For Fight

By Victor Hatley on July 29, 2010, 8:00 pm Posted in Finance News

I reported this morning that Senator Schumer was working on a bill to create an additional tier for the unemployment benefits, this fact is true. But the sad part of the ongoing story is that the legislation will not be able to be completed and introduced until after the August recess that the House will start tomorrow.

The Phone Call To Schumer’s Office

Today, The Denver Unemployment Examiner reported that his office was non-committal to the issue of the fifth tier, and hinted that there was little likelihood of action until after the recess. When the interview with the N.Y. television station was mentioned the person on the other end replied “he’s tired; it’s hard to get the votes…” Everyone already knows that all Democrats will support this, Debbie Stabenow (D-Mi) said “I’m working on a bill to help them because, when there are five people out of work for every one job opening, it’s the right thing to do.”

Republican Support Is Out There

Republican Senator Snowe supported and voted for the unemployment extension that passed last week, so her support will be easier to gain. Other Republicans have said that if the bill is at least partially paid for that they would support it. But after the filibuster that the Senate just went through some of the Democrats are gun-shy to present any bill that is not completely paid for, even in light of the fact that this type of bill has been passed under Republican administrations in the past as emergency acts.

Unemployment Rate Went Down

But the number of 99er’s went up. The Department of Labor is reporting that the first time claims has dropped to 457,000. This is down from 468,000 in the last report, but still cannot repeat the May number of 452,000. Even though market improvement is showing, the market is still weak. Perhaps because of this, Senator Stabenow (D-Mi) has joined Mr. Schumer in his campaign to create a tier 5.

We need a list of names of everyone who voted against the last extension and their office contact info. We will write and call them and we will help him fight for it. But we need to know who he’s having to fight. Someone please create a list of the voting record on the last extension bill, who’s up for election in Novemeber and we will help spread the word online.

My fellow 99ers, republican or democrat it’s all the same thing. By having two parties our government has divided Americans. The Government just wants your hard earned tax dollars and their cushy little government jobs. They just want to get re-elected!
As Americans we enjoy our freedom and life style and the Governmet wants to control that by controlling the economy and throw us bread crumbs to get our vote. Today’s economic depression was by design, it didn’t just happen. PLEASE SEE THE BELOW LINK that fully exposes their Strategy… Let’s not be fooled again and take our country back! Spread this around till we break them down!

When government fears the people – that is liberty.”

Fellow 99’ers, just like you I’m not looking for a handout. How can we force a bill that forces employers to hire applicants over 50 first or be penalized? If they decide not to hire us then they would have to disclose a detailed explanation. Just like an “Older Aged Affirmative Action” bill. Age Discrimination is being swept under the rug and we have to fight back. All ethnic backgrounds prevail with this. Lets Roll!

The time for a revolution has come… The unemployed are being punished for something we didn’t do. The big money crooks are living in splendor on taxpayer money bailouts we didn’t approve while we are forced to live in unpleasantness at best. Let’s throw those bums out of office and get some new blood, we can do it as a team!
Our Government can only control us by dividing us. Don’t let them. Don’t let them send our children off to die in another BS War for nothing more then oil money. I’m a fellow 99er and will do everything I can to throw monkey wrenches in this BS System.
Don’t trust the Media as their only lap dogs for the govt.
Republican or Democrat, it’s all the same thing, two parties divide Americans. We need a leader that has the right connections to start the revolution… this will separate the men from the boy’s… We have our work cut out… ready to roll!

Bernie, I’ll fight with you. I have written the White House at least 4 times. I call or email Senator Brown almost daily since he voted against the extension. I have called Baucus and Pelosi’s offices. I called my Congressman when this was in the House, almost daily again. Now Republicans are blaming the Democrats for not including the 99ers in their own Bill. And the Democrats are blaiming it on the trouble they had to pass the Bill and said the 99ers would have made it worse to pass. No one will take responsibility. I will vote against anyone who is currently in office and not helping, and that is almost everyone. And I just got rejected again in the job market. How do you calm down in an interview when you know the job is life or death.

  6. Keely says:

Republicans will not vote for the tier 5. Blame the Republicans…as I am a 99er, a single mom, have gone back to college, have looked for a job consistently for almost 2 years. I am so tired of hearing that we are just being lazy. I don’t know where they get there stats that each job is 1 out 5. Every time I have gone to an interview, they have had 1500+ for 1 position. This is Washington State and Oregon, I have applied for. I am skilled, was layed off after 13 years at the same job. I am trying my hardest and am getting no where, and can’t believe that our government is turning their backs on those who need help the most. Yes go ahead and fund the war, and the banks, etc etc…hey maybe you should throw in a raise for yourselves and take a vacation for a month, while we try and figure out how the hell to pay our mortgages and the rest of our bills…no worries government….thanks for the help…thanks for watching us all sink! Yes I am very angry and it is unbelievable to watch politics at its finest~

  7. TW says:

Bernie, I was replying to your previous comment about organizing to be heard. A revolution is NOT practical and will NOT work. There is a proper way of doing things. If we sound like radical lunatics, no one will listen. People die in revolutions. I know you are upset, but pursue this politely and within the system.

  8. Matt says:

  10. CousinVinny says:

    That’s O.K. Chuck!…
I don’t need it any more!
You guys took so long getting my State Emergency benefits, that by the time I get them now, It will be the second week of August, and I’ll be homeless on Monday!

Then I’ll have to spend every dime on first, last, and deposit on a new place, and then I won’t have any money for food or gas to job hunt…. bye the time it gets here!

So you go on your third vacation of the year!
I’ll stay here in Reno, Nevada, where the unemployment is higher than it was nationally during the great depression!

  11. Glen says:

awwwwwwwww, they’re tired? gee, must be awful to be paid so highly and get weeks and weeks off with pay, and this lovely long vacation starting tomorrow….let me get out my tiny violin….. and STOMP ON IT because after the last two days of attempted suicide & cries for help among my friends on Unemployed-friends.com, I am literally SHAKING WITH RAGE AND FRUSTRATION. Ignorance is fast becoming an unacceptable excuse. The Senators, Republicans and President have been informed. Countless times. They know the hardships we are under. I voted for Pres. Obama and was so sure that our Democratic Senators would work for us and help us. They are, but please… Senators, can you not see that it just isn’t moving fast enough? People are getting desperate. You are forcing people to apply for welfare that isn’t there. Even the few people who qualify for it don’t get enough to make up for the unemployment that is taken away. Week after week, thousands of people will drop off the unemployment rolls and become 99ers – and then what? Seriously, what are we supposed to do when there are no jobs? How are we supposed to feed our families? How are we supposed to pay our bills and keep our cars going, and even bathe and care for ourselves? And you staffers have the f*cking nerve to say YOU are tired? That goes beyond insensitive to insulting. Cushy damn jobs with air conditioning & perks… STFU and help us!!! we paid taxes too, all the years we worked and ALSO OUR UNEMPLOYMENT WAS TAXED – which is f*cking shameful.

  12. mrmitch says:

Well, The best I can say is,, please pass the word to everyone to vote everyone out of office, democrats and republicans, we need 100 new faces in office,, quit spending except for necesities,,,I called gmac and told them I cant make my payment this month, I called wells fargo and told them that I cant make my new lower payment, that they only dropped 50.00 with a modification, It really is the strategy of the government to do away with the entire middle class, the have’s and the have nots. We must stand together, replace all political seats, local, county, state and federal. The city I live in is giving pay raise’s this month, they say they have’nt had a pay raise since the end of 2008,, they said they may have to raise porperty taxs to pay for it, with the home values declining,,they are out of touch throughout the country..
Live on cash, don’t use the banks, start burying in a can…..god bless each of you!

  13. mrmitch says:

The revolution may be coming, thats why ammom sales and guns sales are at all time high, People are scared,, I hope not, but I am buying more ammo and guns, the used value of guns are rising quickly,, something must be of this,, don’t be without,,,

  14. joe says:

Well then, pay for it with something! These people have already paid for it with the over taxation all their lives. If this was a disaster and people were losing there homes (in another country) we would find a way to pay for it. *******Well it is happening right here*******

When these people have no where else to go what will they do. No way to pay for there children. Maybe they will get desperate and turn to crime. Maybe they will show up at the rich politicians house who did not help the people.

This country was founded on ” We The People ” not ” They The Government”.

That is why we fought our own government(at the time England) because we became oppressed and repressed. They became too detached from the people.

This country is ” We the People “

  16. LucasOwenSmith says:

    WORK OR STARVE!

You parasites are asking for Unemployment Payments to be extended to 30 months? 900 DAYS? Are you kidding me?

The short answer is, HELL NO! After 693 days, if you can’t find some means to support yourself, there IS no hope for you. Either take that job that is ‘beneath’ you, or STARVE.

Think I’m being insensitive? Hyperbolic? I couldn’t care less about your ‘problems’. I’ve got plenty of problems of my own, & I’ll no longer have YOU as one of them.

Think about THIS, in all your haughty outrage. Ask yourself this simple question: At what point does temporary Unemployment Benefits become Welfare?

Don’t like that, well I’ll put it another way: How long would you have had to work, contributing into the Unemployment Insurance Pool, to personally pay for the entitlements you could now potentially draw?

    Let’s find out:

Say you earned $50,000 a year, & contributed the average UI contribution of 1.63% (1.5% in Vermont, 1.76% in Hawaii) of the first $41,100 of your yearly earnings (contributions are not made for any income over $41,100). That would be $669.93 a year you contributed to the unemployment insurance pool ($41,100 x 1.63%) to which your employer added another 2%, ($41,100 x 2% = $822) for a grand total of $1,491.93 a year. (We won’t bother with the fact that your employer will receive a tax credit for about 70% of his contributions on your behalf, making the program even less solvent).

Now say you loose your job, & qualify to draw the state maximum for unemployment benefits, which in New York is now $465 per week (& at 50k a year, you WOULD qualify for the max).

How many years would you (& your former employer) have had to contribute to match what you could potentially draw, over the course of 30 months?

Let’s see: 30 months is 130 weeks. So 130 x $465 (your weekly benefit draw) comes to $60,450.00 (over 2 1/2 years). Well, lets divide that by your (& your former employer’s) yearly contributions:

    $60,450 ÷ $1,491.93 = 40.517 years.

So how many of you out there have been making 50k & contributing the max to UI each & every year for the last 40 years, & have never drawn any benefits before?

Not too many of you, would be my guess.

And even this mathematical demonstration drastically understates the insolvency of the Unemployment Insurance Scheme. Around $575 a year is credited BACK to your employer, for his timely & consistent contributions to the fund. ($822 x 70% = $575.40) every year.

Knowing that the rest of your $60,450 in benefit money MUST therefore be confiscated from tax-payers (or piled on the debt – same thing), can anyone honestly argue that this program/entitlement/bureaucratic ponzie scheme is FAIR? Reasonable? Logical? The right thing to do?

No, you really can’t. So are you the kind of person who will milk the WELFARE programs for all their worth? That’s essentially what you’re doing. Do you really want to be THAT person?

I’m sorry if it sounds insensitive, but extending Unemployment Benefits to more than 900 days is fiscally unsustainable, & in my admittedly not-so-humble opinion, ludicrous.

The math doesn’t work. I know desperate people don’t give a damn about the math, but someone must.

I’m sorry, but no one will EVER convince me that they CAN’T FIND some other means of income within 900 DAYS. Not in America. Of course they could find a job, just not one they really ‘feel like’ doing, since they’ll get paid regardless. Either it’s not in their preferred field, or the pay & benefits are an ‘insult’, or it’s too far of a drive. There are a thousand ways to rationalize not taking THIS job, or THAT one, especially when you know you need never worry about starving in America.

    Insensitive? Yes.

True? Not for everyone. But for many, absolutely.

So at what point do taxpayers say enough is enough? After 36 months? 48? 60? 100 months? Would 3,000 days be ENOUGH time for everyone drawing Unemployment Payments to actually FIND a job? Regrettably, I’d venture to say that a sizable percentage of ‘job seekers’ would NOT EVER seem to able to find a job, so long as their Unemployment checks kept rolling in.

& are we really doing people like this such a favor? Giving them a bare subsistence, conditioning them to never achieve anything or advance their lives, for the effort hardly seams rewarding, when they can get just enough to get by – by doing, well, nothing.

Social compassion is commendable, but not when it’s expanded & perverted into societal suicide.

I run a landscaping company, employing 16 people, all Americans, mostly IF & EF Vets, like myself. I was recently doing a hiring interview with a young guy, fresh out of college, & this individual asked me if he could be paid under the table, because he didn’t want to give up his Unemployment Payments.

He wanted me to pay him his entire wages, in cash, & break the law & risk my business so he could continue cheating the compassionate chumps (I mean tax-payers) out of more than $1200 a month, as if he had no other means to effect his own survival.

Well suffice it to say, I assured him I would not jeopardize his precious Unemployment Payments by offering him something so contemptible as a JOB, & asked him to kindly vacate the premises.

THIS is an undeniable consequence of Socialism. & only one of many. Witness Greece, if you doubt me, for a preview of coming attractions.

Short of quadriplegia or catatonic withdrawal, I can’t even imagine not being able to find work SOMEWHERE in this great land. Maybe making coffee at a Starbucks, or BigMacs at a Mc Donnalds, or selling cigarettes at a gas station, or working as a warehouse loader, or stocking groceries at the supermarket, or trimming flowers in a nursery. Sure it might be a little degrading, but is it any less degrading than being on public assistance? Not a chance. Have you ever seen a Home Depot that DIDN’T have a ‘Help Wanted’ sign out front? Physical labor is NOT THAT BAD. Seriously, it’s not.

Some of you will object that no one will hire you because you’re in your 40′s or 50′s and your resume’s just too extensive. Well I see little old ladies much older than you selling jewelry at the mall, making more than $100/day. & guarantee you, they didn’t have to present their resume’ to get THAT job.

Some of you will ask how can you possibly make ends meet working an $8/hour job, part time? Work two, or three $8/hr jobs, part time. It will only be temporary. Just as your Unemployment payments will only be temporary.

When I was in Iraq, & the 503rd went in to Fallujah as part of Phantom Fury, I was in a firefight that lasted 109 hours. Literally non stop, house to house fighting, for 109 hours. I got four MREs & two 90 minute naps, the WHOLE time, in the middle of Serbian Mercenary Sniper fire, indirect mortar rounds, & a whole army of insane a$$holes just hoping to die for the glory of Allah. Granted, it was a little more exciting than flipping burgers, but my point remains. You do what you have to to survive.

Now if you live in a highly depressed area, like Baltimore, Detroit, Chicago, Philidelphia or New Jersey – all btw run (into the ground) exclusively by liberal democrats over the past 60 years, – all’s NOT lost.

Hold a garage sale, & with the proceeds & your last UI payment, gas up the car, drop the kids off with family, & move (temporarily if need be) to a city that isn’t depressed. In Monroe, Michigan, unemployment is less than 5%, not 35 miles from the heart of Detroit, unemployment capital of the country.

Do whatever you have to. Quit whining on this forum & go do it. There are MANY MANY jobs out there for competent people willing to show up on time & work hard.

Short of a genuine disability there is simply NO EXCUSE for not being able to find work after 693 days. NONE. For Christ’s sake this is AMERICA! Time to Adapt, Improvise, & Overcome, as those Magnificent Jarhead Sonsabitches say. I’d NEVER endure the shame of going on Public Assistance. NEVER!

All right, so now you’re all gonna’ take turns telling me what a heartless monster I am, (or heartless babykiller, if you’re an aging hipster) and why YOUR case is special, & why YOU deserve more of my future children’s money, because Bush was so evil and Obama’s really trying but bla bla bla…

Excuses don’t pay the bills, people, & after 700 days of THOSE, it’s time to EARN your living once again.

If you’d think to damn me for hyperbole, don’t bother. I care not. You KNOW I am right.

  17. Jeff May says:

Lighten up LucasOwenSmith. Your post just wreaks with hate for the downtrodden, period. You are not right. If you want free-for-all social Darwinist capitalism – move to Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, China, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia – all those antilabor places where human rights mean nothing – no unemployment insurance and crappy unliveable wages. Where the hell were you with your voice soldier when the NAFTA and GATT trade agreements were being debated in Congress? These were the main reasons for jobs disappearing out of this country just as H. Ross Perot predicted. You defend those dickhead CEOs in corporate America and Wall Street and their greed? How dare you? Until you can give me a decent answer to the questions on NAFTA and GATT for starters, stop picking on the unemployed. By the way, you can take take Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, every fake conservative commentator and news presenter on Fox News, Newt Gingrich, Rand Paul, Sharron Angle, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin with you when you finally leave this great country. Just don’t let the door hit all of you in the ass on the way out.

Some got big bonuses not like the boys who are over there to keep America safe and fight for honor because they care. Clearly they need a course in psychology or badly needed help. One thing you said right was Yes, this is America and we have the right and power to voice our opinions just like you. I never went on Public Assistance and still haven’t and I worked over 40 years and did all I had to do that’s why I can collect benefits. I paid for that protection. Stupid people like yourself, just don’t get it. We pay taxes. This guy must be on the Republican payroll.

  20. Carol says:

I have to say to WorkorStarve. My family came over to this country in the early 1900′s and built this country. My grandparents raised 5 sons who all fought in major wars. They didn’t boost about it. They had a hardware store, they were tailors and shoemakers and then owned enough real estate to house their workers and pay them well. My father worked with his hands and then had 5 businesses – he wasn’t a landscaper with a few people working for him. He then built up a major successful business that he always dreamed of doing. When times got rough he sold motor oil in mid winter to put food on the table for his wife and kids. Myself like most who are going through a hard time, don’t need the preaching of some novice. You should get out there and volunteer and learn about real truth. You need to learn. You have an opinion that really doesn’t quite make it. When I needed a job to feed my child, I worked in the worse section of the South Bronx and was always in harms way. It was mean area but I did it. You don’t have to preach to me as a 99er. I also have fought tooth and nail to go to school so I can compete with a new skill. No one will allow me to. You are really a silly novice WorkorStarve.

  21. LucasOwenSmith says:

Carol. If you actually worked ‘hard’ & consistently for more than forty years, you had plenty of time & opportunity to put away enough money to retire. That you didn’t is your problem, not mine. With only a modicum of prudent investing over my working career, I am on track to save more than $2 1/2 million with which to retire.

That you think you have as much right to my retirement savings as I do myself, this is the measure of YOUR greed & selfishness, not mine.

I’m sure you’re desperate, but you’ve had MORE than enough time to extricate yourself from your situation.

This’ll make you mad – because it’s true.

    It’s. Not. My. Problem.

Again, I’ve subsidized you for 693 days. Any sympathy I may have had for you has long since expired. It’s been 99 weeks.

    Work. Or STARVE.

  22. LucasOwenSmith says:

Jeff: The pathology of a parasite.

You demand my money, & when I refuse to hand it over, you snivel that since I’m an American, & you’re an American, somehow you ‘deserve’ my money. & further, since I’m unwilling to part with what I’ve EARNED to subsidize your unwillingness to earn, you tell ME to move to a country where such forced charity ISN’T forced. At the point of the government’s gun.

Well sir, I’ve got a better idea. Since I AM productive & provide a critical function, how ’bout I stay & YOU get the hell out. Go live in France, where you won’t be ‘burdened’ with the necessity to earn your living.

Or better yet, Greece. Take your last UI check & book a flight to the Mediterranean & present yourself to the ‘noble’ Greek government, & demand of THEM what you think you ‘deserve’.

In short, work, starve, or go away. Find a more ‘enlightened’ society where they’ll truly appreciate your penchant for doing nothing. Go see how well Greek enlightenment works.

    & good riddance.

  23. HarryBalzonya says:

LucasOwenSmith your opinions are wrong. You are out of touch with reality. It’s too bad your head is that far up your ass. Work or Starve…? Are you out of your mind? Your mentality is disturbing at times. There’s something wrong with you when you don’t care whether Americans die, regardless.

  24. Wilma says:

Thank you,LucasOwenSmith, for your service in the military.I pray you are right about having a secure future financially. However,an accident or illness could occur in a split second, forever altering your life.I can attest to the fact that savings and assets don’t last long when your income is lost.Thank God for your health and that you still have a job,and try to have a little compassion for the less fortunate. Most are hardworking people truly trying to find work, and literally to survive until times are better. If I sound like your mother lecturing you,I’m sorry.I seldom post comments, but felt compelled to reply to you.God bless you.

Lucas O. Smith, you are unbelievable. I am 58 years old and yes worked all of my life, never had assistance before I lost my job of 14 years..my job where i had numerous awards for the fine job i was doing. Then one fine day they let me go, eliminated my job in 2008 and hired a much younger woman to do the work at less than half the wage. I have lost my 401k account of $66,000, my health insurance & am in the midst of liquidating assets BECAUSE I CANNOT FIND ANY WORK. period. I don’t know what to do next. I am trying to save our house as my husband also lost his job. You tell me what I did wrong please & why until more jobs free up we should’t get some kind of assistance so we don’t end up homeless???? This is not fun. It is worrisome 24/7. I even dream I am back to work.

  27. Gigi says:

Senator Schumer’s staff is tired, so am I. After a week off after the 4th his staff shouldn’t be sooooooo tired. What about the other staff in the White House from other states, can’t they help with the bill. We 99ers need help NOW not in September! Let’s get new people in the White House who will do their job.

I’ve got meticulous choke-points & firelines extending out well over 900 yards, so any day you feel you’re just too pissed to continue, come over & try to storm MY property. I’ll bury you beneath my vegetable garden.

Tom. You’re right, I’m really an artificial cybernetic organism sent back through time from the future to complete just one mission: to kill John Conner.

Also, Bigfoot is secretly in charge of NASA.

The NFL was actually created by the CareBears, who indeed invented the sport during a drunken orgy with the TelleTubies.

Oh, & Dark Wing Duck assassinated Gumby.

Ineed, even 911 was an Inside Job:

The REAL head of the CIA, Tony The Tiger, needed to destroy the video evidence of his bondage sex games with Zorro & The Artist Formally Known As Prince. He wouldn’t have it known that he was Kim Jon Il’s voracious PainSlut.

Now this evidence was housed in Building 7, guarded by Cylon Sentinels, so Directer The Tiger hatched an ingenious plot to destroy the structure, by cramming the lobby with 500 fat Asian kids who for 6 weeks had ingested nothing but pork-n-beans, cabbage & Mountain Dew, & when the methane built up to paint-pealing levels, a spark from the dolphin jiz burning engine Chevron has been keeping secret from the public there for 50 years was SUPPOSED to ignite the steamy air/fart mixture & BANG!

But the Underwear Gnomes who were in charge of wrangling the fat Asian kids into building 7 were hungover from the Tijuana donkey show the Dallas Cowboys’ Cheerleaders put on for them the night before, & stumbled instead into the Twin Towers. Well, we all know what happened then, Elvis lit up his crack pipe & BOOM!- 9/11.

The ‘jetliners’ you see in the video were really a couple of those flying lizards from the movie Avatar; CIA Director Tony the Tiger convinced them to fly head first into the Towers, promising them he would help with their careers as Icelandic Emo Singer/Song Writers.

Sadly, their music died with them. It’s too bad, because their high & low pitched screechings were really beautiful, & spoke to the transcendent nature of love, & what it’s like to be a 17-year girl who has purge & chunder to fit into her prom dress.

But by far the ‘Evil Republican Echo Machine’ is the worst of all the secrets Tom Britt is privy to. The E.R.E.M. is an elite group of supersecret power brokers – comprised of Kermit The Frog, Spiderman, Michael Jackson (the black one), the Abominable Snowman, Scooby & Scrappy Doo, & Yogi Bear’s sidekick, Booboo. Every month they meet in Area 51, aboard the flying saucer Paula Abdul crash-landed there in the forties, to discuss how best to screw the planet with their wars for oil/opium/diamonds/whatever & strategize how to refute the claims of moronic malcontents who post their idiocy on USMoneyTalk.com.

These people RUN the world, but only Tom Britt knows it, since, due to a developmental brain defect, only HE is immuned to their mind control rays.

Well thank you, Tom Britt, for revealing these Terrible Truths!

You are such a hypocrite. Many of us are veterans as well, and your comments are a disgrace, son.

I suppose you love having our government giving all your hard-earned tax money to the PLO? or Egypt? or Haiti? or Jordan? Billions of dollars. What’s your opinion on that?

It is UnAmerican to let our own citizens starve and lose their homes while we help other countries with aid packages, outsourced jobs, and the like.

The extension will pass. I wish I could be there to see you choke on your own hate when it does. Because I will go get my check, and I will cash it with a big smile, thinking of you.

    cheers, a$$hole. :)

I am addressing some comments for those of you who can do something, such as email or call your senators and congressman. As for LucasOwenSmith, my prayers are that you find a shrink before you hurt someone.

All taxes become government money in one form or another, including social security. I don’t know where Lucas got his figures, but I paid 38% of my salary in taxes for over 35 years. Using his calculation of 50K per year (I made more, but it’s an average), let’s say it’s $50,000 X .38 = approx. $19,000 a year x 35 years, and I’d say I have not used that up yet in 99 weeks.

And the reason the old ladies in the retail stores are getting work is because retail stores know old ladies will stay because they are usually retired and do not have career goals. They know someone with two degrees, who still looks pretty hot I might add, will not stay when a better job comes, so they will not hire us.

Lucas, why don’t you get this upset when the govenment gives a $33 billion tax break to the rich, or $1.8 billion in executive bank bonuses, all without blinking an eye. But we take months to decide about giving food and shelter to the working middle class, a small piece of the action from the budget.

I worked my way through college, getting up at 3 am daily to do homework, then to class, then to work, and back home for 4 hours sleep. I graduated with straight A’s, and worked a full-time and part-time job most of my life. I have never taken a dime from the system or my parents. I contributed to the system for over 35 years when I could have pulled an “octo-mom” and let someone else support me. Or, since I am gorgeous, I could have earned money in other ways. But I did it all the right way, and I am still volunteering and working part time while I look for work. I can’t even get welfare since I don’t have kids, so, yeah, I can live with a little unemployment since the government will not protect our jobs.

  41. Ryan Jeffrey says:

    Lucas

LMAO! Holy crap that was the funniest stuff Ive read in a while man. Your allright. I agree with your point there should be limits on Unemployment (Im at 33 weeks myself) but you dont have to insult people to make it. Well they insulted you first but still, people are desperate. You got a good sence of humor. About waist I worked with the census & was able to draw UI the whole time. Not once was I questioned. What a joke. But you might not be so confident if you got hurt, which happens to alot a people. Hopefully I wont need 99 weeks but I can picture myself needing them. You could try the same. Anyways, hope everythin works out for ya, & hit us with some more hilarious nonsense. LOL. That was classic. Peace.

ALL of it must go. America can’t afford socialism. No society in history ever has.

  45. LucasOwenSmith says:

You morons site examples of sickening waste (massive fraud, abuse, legislative racketeering, cronie protectionism, unconstitutional bailouts & interventionism, & the idiotic social engineering of foreign societies) – to the tune of 100s of BILLIONS – & claim that since Government wastes SO much money EVERYWHERE ELSE, why not let them waste it on YOU!

That is NOT a tenable argument.

    ANY waste must be excised.

I’m a HARDCORE libertarian: The ONLY legitimate functions of government are enumerated in Article 1 section 8. Critical infrastructure, law & order (for the preservation of our unalienable rights FROM abuse by an overreaching tyrannical government), & the National Defense are the ONLY constitutional provinces within which the Federal Government may lawfully act.
