Some Disturbing News About The Tier V Unemployment Extension

By Phillip Williams on May 11, 2010, 2:41 pm Posted in Finance News

The work that has been done up to this point on behalf of unemployment extensions has been outstanding and commendable. Congressional leaders have been alerted to the plight of the American public, but there is a new threat that, while the reality existed, may come to the attention of the leaders that are already supporting these measures, and destroy all the good work that has been done.

What’s Happening

The Detroit News is reporting that the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association is having problems with the applicants their members have been calling to come to work. It seems that some are requesting that they be paid in cash, or that the employer wait until the applicants benefits run out, or (in some cases) flat refusing the jobs so they can keep their benefits going. Not only are these actions illegal they are destructive to the continuing efforts of the people working diligently to insure that the honest folks needs are not ignored. This also serves to give ammunition to the idiots on The Hill that are against these measures, it was exactly what they have been waiting for.

Damage Done-Let’s Work To Fix It

It’s true that the Detroit News is a highly regarded publication, but we can hope that this is an isolated report. If this becomes a more commonly seen type of report, all hope of an extension will be out the window. Personally I believe this report to be isolated, but more of these must be shut off at the source…the lazy idiots that want something for nothing. I know there are well educated overly qualified individuals out there that would have been happy to have accepted these jobs, so let’s stop turning them down.
