Immigration Reform: I Want What The Undocumented Are Getting
By Victor Hatley on September 3, 2010, 5:58 pm Posted in Finance NewsThe other day while standing outside of a friend’s office, one of his employees was stopped by the police for driving 47 mph in a 25 mph school zone. Unknown to my friend, his employee was undocumented, without a license, insurance, or proper registration. In our state the proper procedure for the police would have been to arrest the offender for driving without a license and take him to jail to make bail…but he was undocumented. In the end, after a thorough warrant search, the police released him to my friend, who dismissed him for being undocumented. I was dumbstruck.
The Norm In Many States
This has become the norm for many areas, because of how the immigration issue is affecting the political climate. If this would have been me driving without license, or insurance, I (or any other documented American citizen) would have went to jail…until my wife came to get me out. And while I like Jose, he’s a good man, I can’t empathize with his situation. In some places the police hesitate to even ask for identification if a person even appears to be from out of town.
Amnesty Not A Solution
While amnesty may not be the ideal solution, maybe a limited amnesty could be. Provide conditions to be met before amnesty is granted, conditions more entailed than having a child inside our borders. There is a program, the H2-B, that allows citizenship through working with companies in the U.S., and returning home for a period to return later to the same employer. This program is cost prohibitive though, to the company hosting the worker.
I Want Mine Too
I’ve thought about defecting to Canada, or Mexico, and then sneak back into the U.S. as an undocumented worker…to get the same health care, tax levels, and other social benefits, but somehow, my wife doesn’t think that this would be a very good idea. So, I guess until our leaders figure out a solution I’ll be stuck, here, paying my hospital and medical…oh yeah, and the taxes.

Oh, yeah Victor!! That’s a great idea, and also let’s wish for a payment of $3.00 per hour on a 8 or 9 hour shift!!! You also want that or not?
how can somebody be so stupid and narrowminded like the guy who posted this?!?!?!?!?!?!?
good point Natalie! not to mention what kind of job for $3.00 per hour.
Why is this person allowed to have an opinion and post it online?
This is ignorance at its worst!!!!!
It’s about 500 dollars for driving without a license, that I know very well, also, it’s about 100$ without insurance and 300 for the bail out.
Undocumented people cannot receive food stamps, welfare or scholarships, they do pay taxes when they pay rent and or if they own a house. They do not collect income taxes which is better for you Victor. They only benefit they have is that they sort of enjoy “free” emergency medical attention.
Come to Mexico so you can see how NAFTA is raping my country, and to see how your drug addict co-nationals are keeping the drug war going in here.
You, Victor Hatley, are either lying big time or you are a total ignorant. Please stop posting your street like opinions.
this post utter nonsense. Illegals do not get anything that I would want to get. i am fine as a citizen.
Your friend needs to be fined for hiring someone without an id. Yet he got away with it.
Now we know who the sensilbe one is here. Great post!
