How Much Longer To Get The Unemployment Extension Checks

By Janet Peterson on August 4, 2010, 8:58 am Posted in Finance News

A person who has filed for unemployment extension checks may wonder when he is going to get them. The rules are generally the same as they are for other unemployment claims with one key difference. A person can file the claims retroactively if he ran out of benefits before congress passed the Tier 5 extension. Unlike the previous extension, a former employee cannot continue his health insurance program through the COBRA Subsidy. Waiting for checks may be difficult for a home owner of a head of household who has bills that he or she must pay.

Do People Trust The Economic Recovery

The extension can take one or two weeks to process, although the claims must be filed by November of this year. If the unemployment office accepts a person’s claims, he can continue drawing benefit up to the 99 week mark. He still must serve the waiting week after his claim is accepted. The volume of claims that these offices currently receive is causing the process to take longer than it usually does. In part, this is because the economic recovery that the Obama administration is trying to convince the American public is occurring. The average American has not seen any signs of improvement.

What Can I Do In The Meantime

Waiting for unemployment checks to come does little good when a person has bills that are due now. In the meantime, individuals still must eat and incur other expenses that are required to maintain their daily existence. Community relief organizations are finding their resources stretched to their limits because of the continuing recession, but they will do their best to aid people in need, if they can provide proof of their bills. Utility agencies may wait for a payment or if the person still has some funds work with the limited resources until the new checks come through.

Anyone still having issues with their unemployment call 1-877-846-8770 ext. 1493. Her name is Cassandra and she is the one who took care of my case and claimed my weeks for me on the 11th and on the 14th first thing in the morning the money was in my account for all 8 of my weeks no problem. She can also direct you to the direct deposit information person but see if she can help you first. The best time to start calling her is after 9 or 10 in the morning because first thing in the morning she is doing all the claiming of weeks for everyone so her phone is off until she is done. Good luck you guys and post as to whether cassandra was able to help you. And Paul, call her because you shouldve seen something by now. This is crazy. She will help you!!

  8. Paul says:

Just Spoke to Cassandra, she certified my weeks and from the problem. There were 2 accounts open and that was jamming my claims.
Hopefully I will be seeing my money in 2-3 days.
    I need it.

    Thanks Tracy!

Does anyone have a good number to call for Northern Nevada?
The number that was on the letter I received says to “call the operator for assistance”.
When I did, she said the number (775-684-0350) was invalid.

  10. david says:

claimed 8 weeks on aug. 11 as of aug. 21 no checks……….

  11. Tracy says:

David, if you still have not gotten anything after claiming on Aug 11th I would call Cassandra and see if she can help you find out what the delay is. If she can’t help you she will atleast be able to direct you to the person you need to speak to rather than the standard CSR line on the unemployment website. Her number is above in previous posts. Good luck to you!

Does anyone know of a person/extension for tennessee? Its been three weeks since they supposedly mailed the letters for the extension but I still have received nothing. In addition I get only busy signals and messages saying they can not accept my call right now due to high volume. I have tried all numbers on the TN Dept of labor website.

  13. Chuck says:

Have you tried to go “on line” and try and file for the extendtion?

anyone in TN filed their claim and still waiting for their 1st check? I filed on November 14. Today is Dec 24 and my case is still “pending”. I have been constantly told 4-6 wks to receive a check. Now I am in week 6, so of course they now are saying 6-8 weeks. WTH? I have never waited past 3 weeks. My water is turned off, about to miss a mortgage pymt, car repossessed and they dont care that they sit on my claim 6 weeks later. I have never heard of this nonsense and wondered how long everyone is waiting.
