Health Reform – These Parts Need Change Immediately
By William Finch on August 27, 2010, 8:00 am Posted in Finance NewsHealth Care reform has proven unpopular for the Democrats and has turned out to be something other than a major victory for the Democratic Party. The Republican candidates, especially those backed by the Tea Party have successfully campaigned on overturning the unpopular law. If the Democratic Party wishes to retain seats in heated districts in November they must change the most controversial measures of the health care law. The forced coverage and the expanded powers of the IRS must be dropped immediately.
The Most Important Health Care Item That Needs To Change
The most controversial and the least constitutional measure in the Health Care bill was forcing people into buying insurance whether or not they could afford it. At the moment, if people do not pay they must pay a fine. If they do not have adequate insurance they must pay a fine. This measure was initially put in as a compromise, but it pleased no one. It is the one item most likely to cause the entire bill to be overturned when the matter comes to the Supreme Court of the United States. The district courts are currently preparing to hold the hearings brought by many of the states.
The IRS Does Not Need More Power
Americans do not view the Internal Revenue Service as a good agency, at the best they view it as a necessary evil. A few people give it some sympathy because it has the job of enforcing vague and unpopular tax laws. Giving the agency oversight of a person’s health insurance makes little sense when it comes to the purpose of the IRS, and most people, whether they are Libertarians or not want to see the powers that the agency exercises reduced. Dropping the measure and the fine imposed may win back some of the moderate voters that the Democratic party lost, but the President’s party has a long way to go because the President has authored or supported many unpopular policies.
