Can I Do A Debt Consolidation Without It Affecting Or Involving My Home?
By Phillip Williams on March 6, 2010, 6:02 am Posted in Finance NewsChoosing to consolidate debt is a very serious decision for a person to make. The type of consolidation chosen will determine what effects it has on other parts of a person’s life. Many people wonder if they can do a debt consolidation without it affecting or involving their home. The answer to that will depend on a few different factors. If that is your main concern, there are options and facts you need to consider when looking into debt consolidation.
How Can You Do Debt Consolidation Without Involving Your Home
The simple answer is to not consolidate debt that is connected to your home. This means that unsecured debt is probably the only debt you should consolidate. Unsecured debt is credit that was offered to you without collateral. Forms of this kind of debt include credit cards, and other small credit amounts. Normally it is the larger items and loans that are secured. A mortgage is a secured form of loan, which means that if you default, the lender has the ability to take the house to recuperate it’s losses. If you are truly worried about having your house tied up with your debt consolidation, then only consolidate the unsecured debt that you own.
Consolidate Only Your Unsecured Debts To Leave Out Your House
Though there is debt consolidation for larger secure loans, you can choose to only deal with your unsecured debt. When you get a loan for those debts, you won’t have to worry about a lender taking any of your personal items. You must still make the agreed upon payments, otherwise your credit score will suffer drastically. So, you may not have to tie your house into your debt consolidation, but personal preference will determine if a person does or not. Fortunately, the debt consolidation industry is rather flexible.
