Black Friday Deals: GameStop Among Niche Retailers With Offerings

While retailers such as Best Buy and Walmart will have Black Friday deals on video games and accessories, stores like GameStop make most of there sales from such items and are offering deals to entice gamers post-Thanksgiving.
GameStop Among ‘Specialty Retailers’ Offering Deals
GameStop is in a category known as specialty retailers, meaning they specialize in certain items. In the case of GameStop, founded in 1984 as Babbage’s in Texas, the specialty product is video games, video game systems and related products. Bed, Bath and Beyond and Pier 1 Imports are similar stores in the same category. Targeting a niche market is a way for businesses to narrow the focus of their customer base.
Video Game Market Surviving Slow Economy
Despite lagging economic figures for most businesses, video games sales are showing an increase. GameStop reported a third quarter spike of 3.5%, bringing total profits to $1.9 billion. The bump is credited to new software and high profit video game releases such as Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Xbox, PS3 Games Lead GameStop Black Friday Deals
Highlights of GameStop’s Black Friday deals include an Xbox 4GB game console at $199.99. A choice of Madden 11 or Medal of Honor is included free with the purchase. The purchase of black or white Wii system bundle for $199.99 will get you complementary copies of Just Dance, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.
Discounted Playstation 3 games include My Sims, Dragon Age, Beatles Rock Band and the latest versions of Assassin’s Creed and Battlefield. The popular Guitar Hero games are also marked down to just under $15.
Extra Savings For Shopping Early
Many retailers are offering “door-buster” deals, which are discounts available during specific hours only. GameSpot’s “door-buster” hours are 5am to noon.
